- 1. How to choose the right grade?
- Putty powder : 100,000 Mortar & tile adhesive : 150,000+ Film coating : low viscosity (3-15) Controlled-release tablets : high viscosity (4,000-100,000)
- 2. HPMC 100,000, What does the number mean?
- Viscosity of a 2% solution at 20 degree (mPa.s). Higher number = thicker.
- 3. What's the difference between "Instant" and "Hot-Soluble"?
- Instant: disperses in cold water, viscosity releases gradually Hot-Soluble: disperses in hot water, dissolves upon cooling
- 4. Can I add directly to hot water?
- No. It will form hard lumps.
- 5. What affects viscosity?
- Temperature ( low when hot, high when cold), concentration (higher = thicker), pH (stable 3-11), additives (test compatibility).
- 6. How to check quality?
- Whiteness, fineness (finer = better), solution clarity (clearer = better), specific gravity (higher = better water retention).
- 7. Why does putty have bubbles?
- Too much water or applying second coat on a wet base.
- 8. Why does putty powder dust off?
- Mainly poor-quality lime (ash calcium); poor HPMC water retention is secondary.
- 9. Does HPMC participate in chemical reactions?
- No. Physical role only (water retention/thickening/lubrication).
- 10. How to store?
- Cool, dry, sealed, moisture-proof. Aqueous solutions need preservative.
