Sodium polyphosphate polymer, appearing as white powdered crystals. It exhibits strong hygroscopicity, becoming sticky upon moisture absorption and is highly deliquescent in air. It is readily soluble in water, with high solubility but slower dissolution rate in warm water. Its aqueous solution reacts acidic. It easily hydrolyzes into phosphite salts. Capable of forming soluble complexes with certain metal ions (e.g., calcium, magnesium), making it useful for water softening. It can also form complexes with lead, silver, and barium salts.
