- 1. Why do water-based coatings get moldy?
- Water-based coatings contain nutrients (water, cellulose, emulsions). Under 25-35degree and high humidity, mold and bacteria multiply, causing odors, spots, and spoilage.
- 2. In-can preservative vs. dry-film fungicide --what's the difference?
- In-can preservative prevents spoilage during storage (odor, deterioration). Dry-film fungicide prevents mold and algae on the paint film. They serve different stages and cannot substitute each other.
- 3. What is the recommended dosage?
- In-can preservative: 0.05%-0.25%. Dry-film fungicide: 0.25%-2.0%. Increase in hot/humid conditions. Final dosage verified by testing.
- 4. Common chemical types?
- Isothiazolinones (MIT/CMIT/BIT/OIT/DCOIT), pyrithiones (ZPT), benzimidazoles (Carbendazim/BCM), carbamates (IPBC). Isothiazolinones are most widely used.
- 5. Why mold still grows even with fungicide?
- Possible reasons: 1. High film porosity absorbs moisture; 2. In-can only, no dry-film fungicide; 3. Poor application conditions; 4. Incompatibility/degradation.
