Stearic Acid

Stearic Acid is a saturated fatty acid with the chemical formula C18H36O2 (CAS 57-11-4). It appears as a white or slightly yellowish waxy solid, with a mild fatty acid odor. It is widely used across various industries.

This versatile product exhibits good solubility in organic solvents and oils, while being insoluble in water. Its typical specifications include an acid value of 203-211 mg KOH/g and a saponification value of 205-215 mg KOH/g. The iodine value is kept low (≤2.0 g/100g) to ensure stability and prevent oxidation. The melting point is typically 54-69°C, depending on the specific grade and composition. Common grades include triple-pressed stearic acid (with a higher C18 content) and rubber-grade stearic acid (with a lower C18 content).

In rubber and tire manufacturing, it serves as an activator, softener, and processing aid. In personal care, it acts as a thickener, emulsifier, and consistency builder. It is also widely used in plastics as a lubricant and release agent, and in candles, soaps, and food packaging.
